ILLUMINAIRE

2013, University of Brighton

Life can be a great challenge for both sufferers of Dementia and their and carers, due to the irregularity of their behavior, appetite and sleeping patterns. This is mainly caused by an unbalanced circadian rhythm - our body clock - which influence sleep, behavior, appetite and more.

This lighting device exposes the sufferer to a high-intensity light for a certain period each day, which helps regulate their circadian rhythm. In turn, this brings more peace to the sufferer and less difficulty to the carer.

This project incorporates proven research of light therapy into a product which is suited to the needs of Dementia sufferers. It features tactile elements that encourage the user to interact, as well as programmable functions to suit individual needs.
